Donkeys on the hill
Camera
About
Slade House Farm is home to about 200 donkeys who live in small groups which can be seen on many of the walks around the Sanctuary.
The groups consist of:
- Blind donkeys
- Diet groups
- Bad breathers
- Laminitic donkeys (foot problems)
There are about 40-50 resident donkeys in New Barn - some of them are over 40 years of age! Watch the donkeys in and around their barn as they graze on the fields with a view across the bay.

Candlelight evening
On Friday 10th December 2010, The Donkey Sanctuary will be holding its annual Candlelight evening from 5.00 pm (weather permitting). Staff will begin to light the thousands of candles around the Sanctuary from 3.30 pm with the 45 minute Christmas carol service starting at 5.00 pm in the Main Barn opposite the Visitor's Centre.
Watch this very special occasion on the webcam - for one night and one night only, you will be able to hear the carols (and join in the singing!).
Donkeys subjected to appalling treatment in Pakistan
I have just read, with horror, a story which appeared in the Daily Mail of 31st August 2010 in connection with the Pakistani cricket team betting scandal. It says that in Pakistan: "DONKEYS with the names of the shamed players stuck on their heads WERE PELTED WITH ROTTEN TOMATOES AND SHOES". I won't say any more .......
The "subscription failed"
The "subscription failed" message has been on now for several days - both in the barn and outside: so looking forward to them both being reactivated. Thanks Anne
Article in the Daily Mail - Saturday 14 August 2010
An absolutely brilliant article appeared in this paper about The Donkey Sanctuary; the first item to note is that in the first six months of this year this wonderful Donkey Sanctuary took in 182 donkeys - nearly twice as many as in 2008. For those of you who didn't know (I include myself in that) the Sanctuary divides its residents between seven farms, "spread over a staggering 3.000 acres"). Unbelievable.
In the article there are horror stories - in particular the one about Laurel and Hardy; they were locked in a shed and forgotten about - a member of the public alerted The Santcuary - their untrimmed hooves were so long that their feet were pushed upwards and matted. THEY ARE NOW BOTH FULLY RECOVERED - a remarkable story of what The Donkey Sanctuary can do. God bless you all - donkeys and carers alike.
